Ok time for a new SigTag competition. This month it’s all about Christmas. I just had this years Christmas packages released via CDO, 3 packages in total, plus a free tube, making it a total of 10 images! And therefore it’s any of these new tubes that will create the basis of this new competition:

You can stick with the Christmas theme, which will definitely give you extra kudos, but you can also go for something completely unrelated if you find something that works better for you, winter, Yule... the choice is yours. Fred Winkler Art News - New art, new merchandise and loads more

It’s time for another short update on the things going on. Many of you who follow me via twitter or facebook will have already seen some or most of this, but I am trying to put it all together in a more concise way.

Firstly I have added a lot more pictures to my gallery since my last newsletter, so please check out my new gallery and have a good browse and see what you think. I am often asked if you can suggest new themes or pass on any ideas you might have, and the answer is definitely yes, go for it, I always love to hear from you and about your ideas. But now to the actual news…

It’s the first of the month, so it’s time for the results of July’s Signature Tag competition! There were more entries than ever this month so it was very hard to pick a winner because the standard is so high. It is interesting to see how some designs are very intricate where others are just the opposite and evoke different feelings. The design I chose this month is one that has a classic design and the more you look at it the more relaxed you feel, which has to be a bonus. So, the winner is Christina with this awesome winter themed tag. Although it is summer here, it is still possible to have Christmassy feelings looking at this tag, so I can only imagine how wonderful it will feel at the right time of the year. Thanks to everyone who entered the competition. It’s great to see the different styles and techniques used. Fan Gallery.... have you got any picture?

Hi all,

I always love seeing someone getting enjoyment out of my work, therefore I always LOVE seeing pictures that you're taking yourself. Whether that is of your framed and hung up pictures, a cross stitch chart you completed, a cushion you created with one of my fabric blocks, you wearing one of the great cameos that has my art on it, or whatever you have. I just love seeing it, and if you don't mind sharing your picture with others, that's even better. You don't have to have your face in the picture, I totally understand that not everyone is comfortable with having their faces showing.

So what brought this one, well it's something I've been thinking about for a while now, but an email this morning, made me write this blog entry. Someone who's been buying a few of my prints over the last few months has sent in a lovely thank you email and a picture, and she agreed that I could show it off. So here it is:

"Fred, I received your prints this morning and now have them all hung up. I know I'm not the best photographer, and the lighting today is bad but I got so excited that I just had to share it with you. Your pictures always make me feel so happy, I look at them and just feel great. I have been waiting for the right time to hang them all up, and when I received those two prints this morning, I knew today was the day. I already had the frames ready, like I said was just waiting for the right time. Since I started collecting your work I have had many friends comment on it and they love it. When I finished my Fred Winkler feature wall I had my neighbour pop in and all she said was WOW! My own words exactly. Keep up the great work, you've got a fan for life here. lol. I love what you do, and can't wait to see your next piece, I know I'll be buying it. By the way, got myself one of your iPhone covers, can't wait for it to arrive now. Love, Cat x"

It was this lovely email and message that meant I just had to write this blog today.

Urgent call for all artists

Hi all,

This is a call for all artists who are interested in illustrating a book.

A great friend of mine is having her book published very soon and is still looking for an illustrator. This is quite an urgent project and due to having so many commitments myself right now I am unable to help her. Therefore I am putting out this call for all artists who might have the time to help.

The book targets the 6-10 age group, and covers shamanic ways. She’s hoping the illustrator is willing to base their illustrations on the characters she has created (bears, faery etc) and would be drawing her characters, and introducing pagan ways into each picture.

The book is based around a few bears and a rabbit and she hopes to bring out an oracle card set, hopefully before the end of the year, that is attached to the book.. So whoever illustrates the book, she’d love them to also illustrate the oracle cards too, so there will be future work once the book is complete, plus there will be more books if this all goes according to plan.

The book will be available worldwide on the Internet via Amazon, Waterstones, Barnes and Noble etc, plus she will approach all independent bookshops (especially spiritual ones) to see if they will stock it too. Initially it will be published by an organization that is a branch of Hay House.

This is quite an urgent project and therefore if you have the time, please email Suzi at animalledger@aol.com with the subject "Book Illustrations" and tell her a bit about you and your work, and the price range you are looking for. She is looking for about 10 illustrations for inside the book, plus one for the cover.

This is a great chance for one of you to become published with your first book illustration. I’d love to do it myself, but like I said, unfortunately simply haven’t got the time to work on this very urgent project. Therefore I am hoping that one of you will have the time and enthusiasm to do it.

The reason for the change in my art…

I have received quite a few emails over the past few weeks asking about my change in art, why I haven’t done any oil or watercolour paintings this year. I still received great comments about my new art, but people were wondering. So I thought I should really explain the reasons why.

When I used to do my paintings I wanted to get them as life like as I possible could, which meant hundreds upon hundreds of brushstrokes… I loved it and even if it took me weeks or even month to finish a piece it was great. So I didn’t stop doing that because I didn’t enjoy it anymore, the reason is a lot simpler. Due to the constant painting I was doing I ended up having my wrist badly inflamed, I stopped for a while, but the artist in my just couldn’t stop, it ended up getting so bad I had to paint supporting my wrist with the other hand and couldn’t even lift the kettle for my tea anymore. At that point I knew something had to change. I didn’t want to give up art, but I also needed to give my wrist the break to fully heal. That’s when I came across 3d art, something that always fascinated me, so I started to look into that as it was kinder on my wrist, and therefore I was able to do that, without damaging it any further. I am hoping that in time this will be back to normal and that I can combine the traditional paintings with the 3d art, but right now I just can’t do it. And that’s why the change happened in my art. I have to say though, that the 3d art awoke an old childhood passion in me, where I was always interested in that kind of art, so maybe it all happened for a reason.

Thanks for reading and I just felt it was now time for me to explain what really happened and why my art style changed so dramatically.

Hi All,

I hope you are having a great Saturday and that all is well with you.

As I’m typing this I can see the first snow flakes falling, they are still tiny and I don’t see them lasting, but it reminds me that Christmas is near. I don’t know about you, but when it comes to the end of the year I often end up reflecting about things that happened and generally be thankful for the people I have connected with over the year. So firstly I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who supported me over the years and who has made this journey possible for me.

It’s been a very eventful year so far, my art has been licensed, I was featured in The Magical Times and I have grown as an artist… well I think so anyway.

Hi all, I hope you are well. It’s been a mad new months, but so much has happened. From having my work licensed to working on features and even a cover for a magazine it’s all been happening, and I’m enjoying it greatly. But I couldn’t have done it without all your great support. Good vs Evil

Hi all, this time I have a slightly different update. I wanted to play with the good versus evil idea.
So I created a couple of new pictures, one light fairy (good) and one dark fairy (evil), I wanted to see how it felt creating those two opposites and it was very interesting how the energies changed as the picture became darker/lighter. Here are the pictures so you can see for yourself and see which one you prefer:

Sibyl and Nyx are twin sisters, but while Sibyl turned out a happy, bright and light Fairy her twin sister tuned out the complete opposite. Those two have a bond with each other, yet they can’t stand each other at the same time. There are always conflicts and arguments when those two come together. So which one do you support? Are you on “Team Sibyl” or “Team Nyx”?

So let me know what you think, do you like the light vs dark project and like them both in different ways, or do you prefer one ore the other.
